The Public Affairs Section announces the opening of the 2009 Fulbright Student Scholarship competition. Selected students will begin their studies in the U.S. in the 2010-2011 academic year. Applications are welcome from outstanding Iraqis to study for one and two year master’s degrees in the arts, humanities, sciences (except medicine) and social sciences in the U.S.
The application deadline is May 1, 2009. All applications must be submitted on-line. Iraqi finalists for the Fulbright program will be interviewed in May and June 2009 in Baghdad, Erbil and other locations by a bi-national U.S.-Iraqi selection committee. For details on benefits, conditions, and the application cycle, applicants should visit:

The Fulbright experience is an exceptional opportunity for outstanding Iraqi students to build solid academic credentials and develop deeper understanding of U.S. culture, politics, and society. Iraqi Fulbright students also have opportunities to share Iraq’s rich culture with Americans, in the classroom, and in everyday life.
We encourage all personnel to share this information with Iraqi contacts who may be interested in applying or who may know exceptional candidates. Applicants may study any field in the U.S. with the exception of medicine. Employees of the U.S. government are ineligible.
Candidates who have specific questions not answered by the information on the Fulbright website may e-mail the Public Affairs section at: fulbrightiraq@state.gov.
